The Indian Badminton Team found themselves with favorable draws in both the men’s & the women’s events for the Thomas & Uber Cup to be held in Aarhus, Denmark in October 2021.

Indian men’s team will feature in Group C, alongside defending champions China. The Netherlands and Tahiti make up the rest of the group. Meanwhile, the women’s team will feature in Group B with Thailand, Spain and Scotland as the other contenders.

The Thomas & Uber Cups were originally slated to be held in May 2020 but were first postponed to August of last year before being put off for another 14 months to October 2021. The event has also seen a spate of top teams withdraw from the competition citing health and safety reasons.

For the Thomas Cup, favorites Indonesia are placed in Group alongside Chinese Taipei, Algeria, and Thailand. Meanwhile, the home team will be up against the likes of South Korea, France, and Germany – in what promises to be a tricky group. In the final group, England will battle Japan, Malaysia, and Canada for qualification to the next round.

In the Uber Cup, Group A promises to be a rather tight affair with Japan, Indonesia, Germany, and France battling for the honors, while Group C will be headlined by South Korea & Chinese Taipei. Tahiti and Egypt will be the other teams to feature in the Group. While the home side, Denmark, will once again be in tough company – China, Malaysia, and Canada – in Group D.

At the end of the round-robin phase of the competition, two teams from each group will advance into the knockout phase. Team India, will look to better its performance from the 2018 edition, wherein both the men’s & the women’s teams were knocked out in the group stages.
